Accessibility

The Campus Libraries provide equitable access to a full range of services, resources and facilities for all by recognizing individual needs. Anyone with special needs is encouraged to ask for assistance from library staff.

  • Alternate Formats

    The Library provides access to a range of print and electronic material to support teaching, learning and research at the University. If you require material in an alternative format, please contact library.accessibility@ontariotechu.ca.

    ACE Portal 

    The Accessible Content E-Portal (ACE) is a service provided by Scholars Portal. ACE began as a pilot project in 2012 and was made possible through a collaboration between OCUL and the University of Toronto, with support from the Government of Ontario as a part of the EnAbling Change Program. ACE transitioned to an ongoing Scholars Portal service in 2014, and in 2015 began offering services to the Ontario colleges.

    ACE provides alternative formats for print material held in our Library collection. The following alternative formats are provided for all material in ACE:

    • Colour PDF
    • Black & white PDF
    • DAISY
    • ePub
    • Plain Text

    Accessing ACE

    Library users with documented print disabilities may register for access to the ACE Portal using an individual token. Students must be registered with Student Accessibility Services in order to obtain an ACE token.

    To request access to ACE, please contact library.accessibility@ontariotechu.ca.

    Once you have received an ACE token:

    If the book you need is not available in ACE, contact library.accessibility@ontariotechu.ca to request digitization.

    Captioned Video 

    The library will provide, on request, a transcript or closed-captioned version of any DVD in our collection for students with perceptual disabilities. If you require a transcript or captioned version, please contact library.accessibility@ontariotechu.ca.

    You can search for captioned videos in our collection using the feature.

    Using the Advanced Catalogue Search, type in caption* along with your topic (the * retrieves all possible endings of the word 'caption').

  • Facilities
    • An automatic door is available at library building entrances
    • Desk height countertops are available at service desks
    • Height-adjustable desks on all floors
    • Wheelchair-accessible elevator services all floors in multi-floor libraries
    • Wheelchair-accessible washrooms are located in all library buildings
    • Wheelchair-accessible public workstations with adaptive software
    • Service animals are welcome
  • Services
    • Assistance is available from library staff for:
      • retrieving material from the book stacks
      • using the catalogue
      • printing and photocopying

    • For in-depth reference assistance or to acquire material in an alternative format, contact a subject specialist librarian.
  • Adaptive equipment

    The following adaptive equipment is available (until 30 minutes prior to library closing) in the on the fourth floor of the North Oshawa Library on a first come, first served basis:

    • For patrons that have an ¶¡ÏãÔ°AV-issued network login, there is a computer loaded with adaptive software, including
      • Zoom Text (Ver. 10.1)
      • Read and Write (Ver. 11)
    • A 22" LCD monitor that can be used with a laptop.
