Parking on campus: important reminders and general tips

The start of a new academic year means September is a busy time on campus, where the university welcomes thousands of people to its north and downtown Oshawa campus locations. As a result, parking can be difficult; the Parking Services office appreciates your patience during the beginning of the semester.

Paid parking is in effect at both campus locations. While most of permits have already been distributed, if you still need a permit, use the to register and be added to the waitlist. By the end of the month, additional passes will be released to the waitlist.

If you do not have a parking permit, you may also consider:

  • Taking transit.
  • Carpooling with someone who has a pass.
  • Using daily parking (not a long-term solution, but an option when needed).

Remember, if you do not have a valid hang tag or access card for the area you are parked in, you may be ticketed or towed.

Here are some helpful reminders and general tips to assist with your parking experience:

General parking information and tips

  • If you have not yet received confirmation of your parking access, please wait for IPASS/Precise Parklink to respond to your inquiry. They are currently experiencing a high volume of registration inquiries.
  • If you have been denied parking because a lot is sold out, you can request a different available lot or ask to join the waitlist for your preferred lot. Additional spots typically become available a few weeks after the beginning of the semester; you will be notified if a spot opens up. Waitlisted permits will be issued on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to availability.
  • If you have not yet picked up your access card or hang tag, visit the Parking Services office in the Gordon Willey Building, north Oshawa campus location, Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Note: There may be long wait times at the Parking Services office during the first week of the semester.

Daily parking

  • Available in:
    • pay-and-display lots
    • gated lots
  • Fee: $5 per hour; $18 daily maximum.
  • Tap debit and credit card payment is available at exit gates.
  • Pay stations accept cash, coins, debit and credit cards. They are located in Founders Lot 2 (southeast corner), and the Commencement Lot at the north Oshawa campus location.
  • If the pay station is not working, press the assistance button.

Permit holders

  • If your parking access card does not work when you tap it, push the call button for assistance and wait for further instructions.
  • Please ensure you always tap your access card each time you enter your designated lot, even if the access gate is up when you arrive. Occasionally lot gates may be open temporarily. If the gate is back down when you exit, it may not open for you when you tap to exit.
  • If you have a hang tag, ensure it is visible from the outside.
  • If you’ve lost your card, notify the Parking Services office as soon as possible to obtain a replacement.
  • Ensure your payment information on file (e.g. credit card number) is up-to-date.
